Our Story
Alex founded the Sounds Of Salisbury Podcast in January 2019 because of his desire to highlight the musical talent in and around our local area.
With his experience as a Salisbury singer/songwriter, he wanted to give other local artists a platform to reach a wider audience and the opportunities to teach or learn from our rich pool of musical talent.
This evolved in March 2021 when he invited his wife Ellen to promote the other areas of our community which make up the vibrant tapestry of Salisbury.
Branching off to hear from local charities, businesses, events that are happening has made the podcast a more well rounded, informative listening experience.
Following a 2 year break from Podcasting we are returning in January 2024 with excitement,
fresh ideas and new equipment to bring to the table.
This included changing from audio podcasts to visual, which was a goal from the start. By mid 2024, we decided to reduce the community aspect of the podcast and focus specifically on highlighting the Salisbury music scene and also introducing acts from all over the country to the music loving audiences of Salisbury.
In September 2024, we were delighted to start our weekly radio show on Radio Odstock, playing music, past and present, from acts in Salisbury and the surrounding area. We are loving the detective aspect of searching for old music, old bands and artists, and connecting the dots. It truly is a joy to be able to build a local music archive that can eventually be added to the Radio Odstock servers and become part of the normal programming for many years to come.

Ellen
Who was your gateway musical act?
Probably Green Day! This was a pivotal moment, taking my son to see them for his 9th birthday at Wembley arena. That is when I truly fell in love with live music
What is your favourite album?
Hard question as this changes often so will have to say an album that still stands up. Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill.
Guilty Pleasure
Rizzle Kicks - Down with the Trumpets saw them at Camp Bestival in 2012 . Packed festival field and a memory I cherish
What to buy you if we see you at a gig?
Pale IPA or a packet of Ready Salted crisps (pickled egg optional but preferred)

Favourite Gig
Not sure it counts as a ‘gig’ but being part of the Luicè music video in July 2018 was so much fun and kick started one of my favourite few weeks of music events
Act you wish you could have seen
Has to be The Beatles back in the day. Those shows must have been so much fun
What does music mean to you
Self expression, memories, emotions, dancing, singing… there is a song for everything! Music means the world.
Favourite Venue
Salisbury Arts Centre is a great venue. The building is stunning, the acoustics are superb, the stage is big enough for full bands and space for a large audience
Alex
Who was your gateway musical act?
My Dad loved the Beatles and Eric Clapton, so I guess those were my gateway, and then I found rock music, mostly metal then 80's glam/hair/pop rock
What is your favourite album?
There are so many incredible albums out there. If I had to pick one then it would be 'Appetite for Destruction' by Guns n' Roses. Literally no skippable tracks.
Guilty Pleasure
Daisy Jones and the Six. Loved the tv show, loved the music. Never been a fan of Fleetwood Mac, who they clearly sound like and are influenced by (musically and for the show), but damn I could listen to that all day.
What to buy you if we see you at a gig?
Cider, especially Lilleys

Favourite Gig
That's a tough one. There are so many. If I had to pick one, it would be a band called Augustana, who I saw at the O2 Academy in Birmingham. I had followed them for what seemed like an eternity and then Ellen surprised me with tickets to see them. Just a perfect night.
Act you wish you could have seen
Queen. That would have been incredible.
What does music mean to you
It can take you to so many different places, moment in time or an emotion. And it just brings people together.
Favourite Venue
Locally, the Salisbury Arts Centre. I had many a night in there as a youngster. Absolutely loved the Marquee Club in London too. A special venue.
