29th March 2024Beggars Bash - Salisbury Rugby Club

Sock Puppet Jukebox

The infectious energy of SPJ mastermind Paul Furtado leaps off the stage with this brilliant concept.

A set made up of audience requests, glued together with a few from his own repertoire, kept the punters tapping their feet with enjoyment and applauding with appreciation. Paul has been a staple of the Salisbury music scene for a while and it is brilliant to see his dedication and talent rewarded with gigs like this.

An absolute party must, please check him out whenever you can.

Rosie Jay

Having seen Rosie perform a couple of songs at the last Beggars Bash at the Salisbury Arts Centre, the SOS team were delighted to be able to watch more from this talented young singer/songwriter. With a set of originals and covers, she showed why she is becoming a very popular name on the Salisbury music scene. Her tone is beautiful, her lyrics are thoughtful and delicate, she has a very bright future.

Punkture

And suddenly the amps were turned up to 11 to celebrate the return of the purveyors of Punk Rock, Punkture.

From the Dead Kennedy’s ‘Kill the Poor’ to The Stranglers ‘Tank’, Punkture take you on a wild ride through the punk archives, plucking masterful classics from the plethora of brilliant tunes of the era and smashing them out of the park. Colin Holton pausing procedings to discuss if people mass debate over whether Motörhead were a punk or metal band will do down in Salisbury Live folklore! Amazing to have them back and rocking!!!

3MO

And just like that, the punk vibe jumps to the 2000’s as Salisbury’s premier Pop/Punk/Rock covers trio hit the stage.

Featuring aforementioned Paul Furtado, the fabulous Dave Howell and the brilliant Lucas Hardy (please check out his new single ‘The Below’ on all good streaming services, and probably some bad ones too), they hook you in with some absolutely classic tracks that you can’t help but sing along to.

Green Day!

Blink 182!

Foo Fighters!

The list goes on! Check them out and get your EMO on!! Shout out to #SheMo, the official 3MO fan club! Badges at the ready!!!

Zed Zeppelin

Truth be told, I’ve never been a big Led Zeppelin fan, but it’s amazing how many of their songs I didn’t realise I knew once Zed Zeppelin had finished their superb set!

Vocally supreme (those two words honestly don’t do it justice). Immensely intricate musicianship. They absolutely smashed their way through the best of Zeppelin’s back catalogue.

Cannot wait to see them again on June 1st for Salisbury Live goes Rural at Alderbury Rec.

BC/DC

The always brilliant Break Cover channelled their inner rock gods to bring us a brand new side project, their AC/DC tribute set!

Jam packed with some of the best AC/DC tunes (I know they are all good but you can’t play them all!!).

If you’ve heard the band play AC/DC songs in their normal set before you know they absolutely smash it, but WOW!!!! This is something else!!!

Break Cover have had some fantastic singers, and absolutely no disrespect to any one them, but Amber Coleman is sensational. Confident and utterly ballsy, she channels her inner Brian Johnson to the emphatic effect! BC/DC will rock you all night long!
